A 12-hour shift is generally treated as 11 worked hours plus 1 paid lunch hour. You are still paid for lunch because you must remain available for calls, but premiums may not apply to that lunch hour.
Pay steps are based on hours worked. Use ePeople to check your current step and how many hours remain before your next increase.
On the schedule, the shifts between the blue lines represent one pay period.
Overtime is based on averaging across set periods. You need over 120 hours across three working set (shifts between the white lines on schedule)
IE: Working many shifts in a row does not always mean overtime if the total threshold is not met.
Days: no premium
Evenings: 1500-2300 (+2.75)
Nights: 2300-0700 (+5.00)
Weekends: Friday at 1500 to Monday 0700 (+3.25)
Only applies when actually working. Vacation, sick time, personal leave, and banked time do not receive shift differential.
Stat days are paid at an increased rate, not including shift differential. Full-time staff usually bank the time, while casual staff are usually paid out.
STAT rate is 1.5x per hour, Super STAT (Christmas Day and the August Civic Holiday) is 2x per hour
Vacation is advanced so staff can use time before earning the full yearly amount. ePeople may show a negative balance early on. Vacation is earned gradually as you work.
Personal leave can be used when something comes up and you need time away from work. It is counts only as 7 hours, but commonly topped up with vacation or banked stat time to cover a full shift.
Bereavement leave may be available when an eligible family member passes away. Confirm eligibility and length with your manager.
Sick time is earned as you work and starts at zero. Check ePeople for your current sick bank balance.
Flex spending can be split between health spending and wellness spending. Health covers eligible medical costs, while wellness covers approved wellness-related items or services. You choose how much you allocate into Health or Wellness, if not specifed, it splits 50/50.

Boot allowance can usually be claimed every two years. Bike patrol members may also have a separate shoe allowance. Submit receipts through the proper process.
Allowance is $250
Maintain at least one long-sleeve shirt for court appearances.
Only active Bike Patrol members who have completed the AHS Bike Training Program are issued Bike Patrol uniform items.
When leaving employment, all issued uniform and equipment must be accounted for and returned. Return paperwork/checklists are used to verify all items.
Do not keep more than the allotted number of uniform or equipment items. Excess items must be returned to the Training and Development Unit.
Required Organizational Learning courses are mandatory for staff and cover key policies, safety expectations, procedures, legal requirements, and organizational standards. Track or register through the Required Organizational Learning tab in MyLearningLink.
